Yes, The Léon and Henriques families seem to have been of Jewish extraction. My family tradition makes them of the 'nation portuguaise', maybe originating from the region of Bordeaux, France.
Maybe we are looking for the same people here:One ancestor of mine, named Michel Isaac Léon, was married to a (first name unknown) Henriquez or Henriques. One son, Isaac Jacob Léon, married Elisabeth Peppard, born in Ste-Lucie.They had 9 children, the first of which was born in 1827 in Jacmel.Their fifth child, Simon Léon, born in Les Cayes, is my direct ancestor. He was married to a (first name unknown) Pommier. As another miss Pommier seems to have been the second wife of Isaac Henriques Moron, a known jew established in the Jérémie area, it might but confirm the jewish connection. Simon Léon and (?) Pommier had two daughters: one of them, Rose Léon, was born in Les Cayes, and she is my great-grandmother.
Anything you might know about the Léons and the Henriques, and want to share, would be welcome, as the information I have is somewhat sketchy on dates and places, and even names.I am, though, trying to research some more, starting in Les Cayes.
