I'm desperate for any leads.I don't have much to go on but would LOVE to find some living connection whether it be in the US or Hungary! Some background first then details I have.
After extensively talking with Antal family members we've discovered that it's quite possible when a family member who passed in the 1970s there was an auction of her belongings and the container that held the family photos and documents containing my Antal family line may have been auctioned off with the rest of the belongings ... purely by mistake. This means most of us who are living have very little to go on to aid my research and very few photos.I'm very hungry to learn about where my Antal family comes from in Hungary and learn about the area, country and way of life.I would absolutely LOVE to get to know living relatives actually still in Hungary.
Background -- this is all I know and could possibly be incorrect. I'm starting with my great grandfather.
Egnatz Antal (a/k/a Ignac, Ignoc) born May 25, 1889 Some things say Biri, Hungary others say Bekes, Hungary and yet another says birth place was Birin, Hungary. His WWI draft registration card says he was born in Carlo, Austria, Hungary. He died March 12, 1943 in Gary, Indiana in a steel mill accident. If I have the correct immigration information he immigrated to the US from Bremen and arrived in NY on April 8, 1907 at the age of 17.The papers state he was coming to join his father (name was very hard to read but we think it says Istvan) who was currently living in LeHigh Valley, PA. Egnatz is found in the 1910 West Virginia census as a border of the Spotilla home. The head of house being John Spotilla who had a daughter named Elizabeth Spotilla.Elizabeth would become his wife on June 11, 1910 and had their first child, John Antal in 1914 ... John is my grandfather.I noted later in that same census there is a Steve ONTO listed with an age that would roughly be Egnatz' father's age (he's 49) but am not certain this Steve Onto is actually Steve Antal - Egnatz' father (Egnatz was 21).There is also a Burnard Tote who is 29 years old ... Egnatz' sister Mary married a Barnabus Toth and would have been about 29 at that time.I have not come across any other census with Steve being anywhere near Egnatz so I'm thinking he passed sometime during their travels from West Virginia to Indiana where they made their home. According to Egnatz' sister's death certificate her parents names were Steve Antal and Elizabeth Popp. Egnatz' death certificate lists his parents as Steve Antal and LUCY Popp.As for Egnatz' brother Steve ... I have no idea what happened to him.It has been said by family members that Steve didn't like the idea of being told who he was to marry so he refused and separated from the family by going to Canada. I am estimating that Istvan (Steve) was born around 1860 and Elizabeth Popp/Papp around 1866.
I know it's not much but ANY assistance would be ever so greatly appreciated!!!!!
