Thank you to Fridrik, for the info on one descendant of (my great-great grandmother's sister) Helga Joakimsdottir (1850 originally from s. Thingeyjarsyslu)
The person you put me in contact with is so nice. But I think he might be a little shy about emailing in English. I don't want to bother him if he's uncomfortable or too busy.Should I try to make other connections before our summer trip? I'm trying to make reservations now, and am wondering if we should drive to Hnifsdalur for a day or two.
We've rented a 4-wheel drive and plan on driving a bunch, anyway. Why not have a cup of coffee and say hi to relatives (able to bear a few minutes of American enthusiasm :) )
From the information Fridrik provided, it looks like my best bets are any living relative of these children of Helgas: Halldór Pálsson (1878-1933) had 7 children. The last of those died in 2002, but many of his grandchildren are alive in Iceland.
Jóakim Pálsson (1879-1914) had 8 children. Most of his descendants live in the Reykjavík area, but there are a few around Hnífsdalur (NW Iceland)
Páll Pálsson (1883-1975)had 7 children, one of which is still alive. Their descendants are also either around Reykjavík or around Hnífsdalur.
Any help at all is greatly appreciated. Can't wait to see Iceland in person this summer! Camae
