I don't know about a Fred Ontong in the 1700's but my mom was an Ontong. In fact my gramps was born in 1913 in Cape Town, baptised, married and buried at All Saints church in Durbanville, South Africa (Cape Province). I know that there are quite a few of his family who have roots with that church. He died in 1992-he was named John Johannes Ontong. I think his dad was also a John. Gramps was married to a L'Amour and they had 6 kids, 4 boys and 2 girls (1 who is my mom). I have a huge family of Ontongs so if you need any more info, just email. I have a second cousin Barry Ontong who resides in Canada, Chatam Ontario, he is about 60yrs old, married with no kids.
My gramps also came from a huge family of bothers and sisters, one sister Janette lives in Australia, some have passed on but all sisters are alive. One is named Clara (Everson by marriage) and the other is Sophia (Petersen by marriage) I will fish some more info this week and come back to post.
I am very interested in doing an Ontong family tree as my gramps was like my dad-we lived with them as kids. If anyone links to my family please let me know.
well, this is a mouthfull :) Looking forward to hearing back from you.
