I do hope we can get somewhere with our search. At least I know that I come from somewhere on the planet. Please stay in touch so that we can exchange info should any of us run into something worthwhile.
Some more of our background is that the Ontong around here: A lot of them were slaves and most were troublemakers. Legend has it that an Ontong led the slave upheaval at the Cape. Another one stole sheep. We have a cave named after him, because he used it as a lookout post on Sundays when farmers went off to church. This was just below Ontongskop( a kop is a hill). Here is a web site: http://www.sdeklerk.com/hiking/ontong2/index.htmhttp://www.sdeklerk.com/hiking/ontong2/index.htm In the pictures you can see what I mean.
I am not sure if he was the one who fled across the mountains and ended up where our clan is living, or if it was the slave instigator. Not good news is it? That is the problem with researching ancestory; you don't know what you might dig up. However, they are a necessary evil to get the information needed. Our Cape Town Archives have a number of murderers and thieves listed as well.
Anyway, I do hope I have not depressed you to smitherings.
