Truth be told, my workstation over here is engaged all the time in the official performance of duties.I write my personal notes in the cracks, when the bosses and everyone else is asleep or looking away.I work as the chief of the Production Division (there are just five of us chiefs in an organization of about a couple of hundred people)of the Presidwential Broadcast Staff/Radio-Television Malacanang (PBS-RTVM) which is the in-house broadcast organization dedicated to provide radio and TV services to the President of the Philippines. There. That's my official brag spiel.Actually I just order people around and don't do any more strenuous work. After working my way up from junior staff writer fourteen years ago, I feel I have earned it. Now I learn that I have been demoted to just being another kidney in what seems to me now as a planetful of "kidneys."
The weather here is wet.The other kind is dry.Half of the year from March to mid-May or thereabouts the weather is sunny (read sweltering if you're used to temperate climes). From mid-May to around mid-November, the heavens weep and most of the time in the cities traffic slows down to a crawl because of the floods that spring up from wherever. The dismal London rains have nothing on us.
Right now, it is WAITING TIME.The canvassing of the votes in the latest national elections held last May 10 HAS NOT YET EVEN BEGUN !!and so the troops who work for the executive office are walking around twidlling their thumbs, drawing their pay for absolutely no work, staring one another down as they meet in the hallways of power, just itching to file an official leave of absence at the slightest sign of yet another delay in the counting of votes.Civil service can be such fun. Good that I have the genealogy forum to get my mind away from the tediousness of the situation. But kidneys ? Yechh.
Still the work on the research of the facilities available at Ontong Java Island is proceeding -- through my son Krispin. I am letting him do all the work and just tell him his father is terribly busy with the affairs of the state (don't blink now).Straight face and gruff voice and all. Aside from being a cybernut, he is also a good kid.And his brother is the same -- all computer games and net surfing.
No latest news on the Ontongs, I'm afraid. Maybe next time.
