Don't know if there's a connection or not. My ggrandfather, from near Rathfriland in County Down, had two older brothers -- Robert, born in 1853 and John, born in 1856. Supposedly, John left Northern Ireland (then Ulster) and went to Scotland, possibly the Glasgow area and died there, but we don't have a date. They also had a sister, Martha McAuley, who married William Hadden and emigrated to the United States pre-1885. Their father was James McAuley, however. The McAuley name was somewhat common in south Down and even more widespread in parts of County Antrim, particularly around Glenarm and Ballycastle.
