THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Tuesday, May 10, 1927
MARTIN J. WARD
Martin Joseph Ward, son of Martin and Annie Clanin Ward, was born September 15, 1856, at Blairsville, Indiana county, Pennsylvania. While still a boy his parents, with their family, moved to Coalsburg, Ohio and from there came to Coalfield, Iowa.
He was married to Samantha Elizabeth Perkins, April 4, 1888, and spent most of his early married life in the vicinity of Eddyville. To this union one son was born, Jess Edwin Ward. In 1911 they moved to a farm near Russell, Iowa, where he resided until failing health compelled him to leave the farm and move to town.
He had a true christian spirit, upholding the right and living up to his principles. None knew him but to be his friend.
All that loving hands and kind hearts could do was done to relieve his suffering, which was borne with great patience and fortitude, but of no avail, and he passed on to his reward Sunday afternoon, May 1, 1927.
Besides his wife and son who mourn the loss of a loving husband and kind father, there remain three grandchildren, Martin, Cary and Frances; one sister, Mrs. Charles Logue of Klein, Montana, and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Presbyterian church of Russell, and conducted by Rev. Walter Phillip Hanson. Interment was made in the Russell cemetery.
