Kathleen, Thanks for this link.I will order the family birth certificates. You did offer me a lot of information to research.I'd never come across a Hugh Hassett and know he didn't travel on the Huma with them but I see he may have arrived the following year- maybe they couldn't afford passage for everyone at once? Maybe he was a cousin whose family died. He seems to be buried in Bath, NY with other Hassett family. There are a lot of possibilities on Hugh.Even if I am able to access his birth certificate, his information may not jive with my Hassetts. I don't consider him greatly important at present.I've never seen him in any others and I do have several so he didn't live with them at length.
There are other Hassett families in the area, several on the Huma.Unknown if related. That's one reason I want to find John Hassett's records in Ireland - to find brothers.I'm wondering if Patrick is a brother. There were 3 John Hassetts in the area.Stafford is nearby in the same county.Bath is also nearby though in the next county (my daughter lives in Steuben Co now).
William Henry Hassett b. 1836 is a new one on me.We must remember that the Blennerhassetts who became Hassetts don't claim relation to the Hassetts.
I did forward some of this info to other family researchers but I'm on uncharted ground here. Thanks much.
