My Great Great Grandfather is known to me as Patrick J. Ronan born between 1830-1835, Ireland. He came over in 1849. Every Census, Directory, Birth Records of his children his Death Record all say Patrick or Patrick J. Now, only 3 of his children had their own, his 2 sons named their 1st born son Arthur and my Great Grandmother named her 2nd son (my Grandfather) Arthur Joseph as well. There is no doubt its a naming pattern but Im at a loss as to why Arthur and not Patrick is the name! I don't have any living relatives to ask about this oddity. I looked into a possible sibling that died young. This doesn't feel right, though and the only records I do come across for Arthur Ronan in NYC I can link to one of his Grandsons. Then I tried to locate Arthur Ronan in Ireland. With, the birth info of 1830-1840, nothing! I did how ever find a measly 3 records in Ireland (2 are the same) a birth from 1795 in Waterford and another where an Arthur sponsored a child at Baptism in 1814 in the South Parish of Cork. Obviously, they're not Patrick and I have his father as Thomas from Death Record. Im curious to find out about any naming pattern quirks or variations that could help make sense of this and or give me an other avenue to look into.
