I am stuck on our family tree and am trying to find some help.
What I know is this:
My grandfather was John James Burke B: 1 jul 1911 and D: 4 oct 1984. He had one sister Mary Burke who married a William Leahy from Halifax.
John's father was Patrick J Burke B: 5 oct 1874 in halifax, D: 29 jul 1939 in Halifax. John's mother was Mary Margaret Shortt from Brookfield, NS, B: 26 dec 1881 and D: 7 nov 1932. They were married Nov 26, 1910 in Halifax.
According to the death cert. of Patrick Burke his father was Michael Burke of Ireland and his mother was Elizabeth Bellefontaine or Belfontaine of Chezzetcook
Now I believe Michael was born in 1830 in Cappoquin, County, Wateford, Ireland. and might have died in Halifax, NS in 1877. Not sure if this is correct as it would mean he was 44 when he fathered Patrick.
Elizabeth Belfontaine was born on 8 jul 1844 in Chezzetcook, Nova Scotia and died on Jan 10th, 1906
I found this while researching:
Belfontain, Elizabeth married 16th inst. (of Chezzettcooke, Nova Scotia): Michael Burke of Cappoquin, County, Waterford, Ireland, by Rev. Dr. Hannah at St. Mary's Cathedral. June 1868.
On the Marriage registration it lists Michael Burke 38 and widowed, and Elizabeth Belfontaine, 25 and single.
It also stats that Micheal was from Ireland and his father was a Micheal Burke and mother was a Mary Burke. It also says that Elizabeths father was a Joseph Belfontaine and a Mary Belfontaine.
Micheal and Elizabeth had 3 kids, Patrick, Mary and Micheal, according to the census records I have found.
This is where I am stuck I cannot find any info on Micheal & Mary Burke. I am not sure if they stayed in Ireland and Micheal came over by himself or not.
