Seeking information on Timothy Harrington who was my great great grandfather.
Transported to Tasmania, Australia in 1842 (18 year old) due to 'stealing a horse'.Survived 10 year sentence, married Bridget Williams (a free settler, from Tipperary, Ireland in 1855) at Oatlands, Tasmaniaand had one daughter (Mary Harrington) in 1856.
Timothy was a groom/jockey and died in1857 at the Carrick 'racecourse', Tasmania after falling from his horse during the steeplechase.Details are contained in newspapers of the time and Timothy was well known as a jockey prior to his death.Bridget remarried, and his daughter Mary married James Beattie, of Eureka Stockade (1854) fame in Victoria and had 7 sons, 6 who survived to adulthood.
Timothy's life was short, and his burial site not recorded, but many other details remain.
I would like to determine his family history from the Irish side and look forward to hearing from anyone who may be able to assist, or indeed are researching a long lost relative who fits the description above, including that of Bridget Williams.
