Doing genealogy research in Irish records is a new experience for me. I have a birth certificate (in Ireland); passenger ship list entry; naturalization record in the US but now I want to move back a generation which means I need to know a whole lot more about what is available in records in Ireland and where to find them.
The mother was b. ca 1873 in County Louth and the father was b. ca 1872 in County Tepperary. This information is consistent in the 1901 and the 1911 census records. Their first known child was b. ca 1895 and so I suspect they were married within the two years before that.
The Irish Family History Foundation has not been helpful because they either have nothing on these people or because there were too many families with the same surnames and given names for the children!!! I cannot begin to make an assessment of which family might be the one that I'm interested in.
Any suggestions? What about reference materials that I can read to get a better feel for how to go about learning more?
