My Haggerty line came from the townland of Movenis, Co. Derry. My ggg-grandfather was Henry Haggerty, 1782-1869, married to Margaret ?.
Their children were: John, 1801-1860, m. Nancy ?; James, 1812-1894, m. Sarah Jane Quinn; Nancy, 1814-1891, m. William McQuigg; Margret,1820-1892, m. John Millar; Elizabeth, 1822-1891, m. Thomas Gallagher; Sarah, 1826-1868, m. James Cunningham; Henry, 1829-1914, m. Elizabeth Gallagher.
All the children were born in NI. James came to Canada around 1830 and settled in Dundas Co., Ontario. His brother, John, came later. The rest of the family was here by 1851 (according to census records) - but probably even earlier (1840). To my knowledge, all the children were married after they came to Canada. Some of the children of John and Henry Jr. moved on to upper New York state.
At present I am trying to learn more about some of the family who moved to Detroit c1870. There was a strong connection between the Haggertys and the Quinns in Detroit. I suspect the Quinns were brothers or cousins of James' wife, Sarah Jane Quinn. Many of the old family photos were taken at a studio in Detroit - which meant a long trip from their farm at Toyes Hill in DundasCounty, Ontario.
