I maintain the surnameorigins.ca website, a small independent surname mapping service. Our aim is to produce high quality surname distribution maps of England and Wales, Scotland, Ireland an the United States.
I am looking for beta testers to help develope our next map offering, the 1901/1911 Irish Census. As a tester I will use your data to produce a surname map for your personal use. This will help me refine and improve my existing geo-coding data base.
Unlike other Irish map products our census map will use 5200+ District Electoral Divsions. The result will be a highly detailed surname distribution similar to the Griffith Valuation maps which we currently offer. An example of our Griffith Valuation maps can be seen here:
I need three pieces of information to produce a surname map. For each entry in the census I need the county name and the DED. This information is used to create the totals for each DED location. We do not need the names of the individuals or any other personal information, however we would need to know the surname being mapped in order to create a title and key for the map.
