Still trying to find information on Isaac Hart. He was born in County Armagh ca 1780. He immigrated to the U.S. from Belfast inJune 1817. He arrived in Baltimore Maryland. He married Mary Carruthers in Baltimore on either June 25th or 29th 1819. They ended up in Franklin County Indiana in October 1819. We know that he had at least one brother named Jacob and one sister they called Betty which is probably short for Elizabeth. There are some indications that the family might have been involved with the Linen Trade. There is some evidence that Jacob and Isaac went from Ireland to Hamilton Scotland prior to Isaac coming to the U.S. It is not known exactly when this trip happened, if it did. They went to supposedly start up a Linen Merchant business.
A look in PRONI has found several Hart names seemingly involved in various aspects of the linen trade. All the way from farming to merchants. Nothing that connects Isaac or Jacob or even Betty to any of the names found ion Armagh so far.
Isaac stated on his U.S. citizenship record that he was born in County Armagh. He did not list any city of any type. I take this as an indication that he was from the country side and not from any village, town or city.
Isaac and Mary were married in an Associate Reformed Church (branch of the Presbyterian denomination), so I tend to think that they were of the Presbyterian denomination.
Looking at Carruthers did not find very much at all. I did find a lot of Carothers in County Tyrone though. It seems entirely plausible that Mary had come from County Tyrone seperately from Isaac and the two met in Baltimore. That would make sense for several reasons. One would be the nearly two year delay between Isaac arriving in Baltimore and their marriage. Passenger list's were not required toi be kept prior to 1820 so there is really no way to see if they might have been on the sams ship or not. It is a m,atter of family 'fact' though that Mary was born in Ireland. Also it makes sense that Isaac if he was alone in a new place would be drawn to a femal from the same general area he was from. From census data Mary was born ca 1795.
If this sounds like it might connect with someone or if you have any ideas on find information let me know.
