The second, The Scotch-Irish in America, describes how many of those settlers subsequently left to begin a life in the New World, more often than not as frontiersmen, and demonstrates the influence they had on the foundation of the United States:
The third book largely covers the later period of the mid-nineteenth century and the Irish exodus to Canada and the United States due largely to the famine of the 1840s. It describes in detail the horrific conditions that many of these emigrants had to face and assesses their progress in the New World:
