Yes, Kelly, we could be related. The Probate of James Moylan's will (made April 4, 1903, probated Feb 16, 1906)lists "Margaret O'Brien, grand-niece, Glen Carronban, Ireland" along with the many Moylan's I listed in my previous message.
I have scanned the two pages listing 32 or more nieces and nephews in a JPEG file, which I'll be happy to email to you, but unfortunately cannot attach in this forum. I tried coverting it to a text file, but the copy is so faint that it is filled with errors, so would take a lot of work to edit or retype.
I am assuming that you live in Australia, and so I'll add the following for any possible additional connection: the Probate states that "Michael Collins, a nephew of said decedent, died in Australia, about 2 years ago [~1904], and that the petitioners have been unable to ascertain whether or not said Michael Collins left any descendants . . . . That said Michael Collins left him surviving no father or mother, but left brothers and sisters as follows: Bridget Donnelly, Katie Touhy, Margaret Bailie, Annie Collins, John Collins and James Collins . . . ."
James Moylan's tombstone lists his birthplace as "[Townland of] Bailey Glass [Ballyglass], Parish of Doora, County Carl [Clare], Ireland" (my brother's transcription and [my interpretation]) He is buried in the Upper Lisle, NY, USA cemetary. Do you have a more specific location of your O'Brien/Moylan family origin in Ireland? If it was the same as James, we would seem to have a high probability of relation.
My great grandmother, Johanna Kelleher McNamara, was James Moylan's niece, from the marriage of his sister, Margaret Moylan to Patrick Kelleher. Johanna was born in 1845 in Ireland. She was from Macroom, County Cork, Ireland and emigrated to the US in 1864.
I hope that this additional information will establish a definite link, and that you can provide me some more details on your side, Kelly.
I have not been able to establish links back to current people or definite places in Ireland for my great grandfather and great grandmother. I'm hoping that I can do that and go back again to Ireland to visit with relatives. With the 32 or more relatives listed in James Moylan's will probate, I hope eventually to be able to trace back from living descendents. Unfortunately, I do not have wills for Johanna or Patrick.
Thanks for your response, and here's hoping we can both learn some more about our ancestors.
We may be related!
Patrick Moylan is my great x 4 grandfather. Born circa 1797, married to Margaret Doloughty.
His daughter was Mary Moylan, married to Terrence O'Brien. (They married in USA, later came to Aus).
Family originally from Co Clare, Ireland. Settled in Australia.
