Hello Robert and Maureen, Your discussion of the Delaney families has me quite intrigued. I have been trying to follow up on some Delaney descendants in the Co. Carlow area, so I thought I'd post the info here and see if either of you recognize any of them...
Denis Delany, married 1816 in Ballon RC parish, Co. Carlow Ellen Cummins, who was born 1789. After they married they lived in Tobinstown, Rathvilly parish, Co. Carlow where there were several other Delany families living. They had four children baptized in the RC parish of Rathvilly, Co. Carlow. There may have been other children but I have not found them.
Patrick Delany, bap 1821, sponsors Pat Gorman and Eliza Byrne Jeremiah Delany, bap 1825, sponsors Patt Byrne and Catherine Kehoe Mathew Delany, bap 1827, sponsors Michael Kelly and Sally Germaine Bridget Delany, bap 1832, sponsors William Kelly and Betty Honohan
In the Rathvilly parish register, a Denis Delany was baptism sponsor for several children, and I have to think these were some relatives - to a son of John Hickey and Bridget Dowling and a son of John Hany and Ann Robinson in 1819; and to a child of Patt Finn and Mary Byrne, a child of Morgan Dempsey and Catherine Hayden and a child of Charles Byrne and Mary Murphy in 1820; a child of Patt Nolan and Mary Breen in 1841. My Denis seems to be the only one of that name in the area, unless he had a son of the same name whose baptism I have not found.
Also in the Rathvilly parish, there was Jerome Delany, who married Mary or Maria Quinn in 1852 Ellen Delany, who married Thomas Bolger of Tullow in 1852
I believe Denis Delany had a brother John who married Mary Doyle in 1831. The children of Denis and John had similar given names.
