My ancestors Anthony Christy and Catherine O'Brien left Leitrim and were married in Scotland in 1854. Does anybody have the faintest idea how I find out which town, village or townland they came from? Given that they were Catholic, they are not likely to be in civil records for the time. Did most marriages in the 1840s and 50s take place between couples who lived in the same place? Any ideas would be very welcome. Christy seems a very un-Irish surname.
