Hello, I am new to this list. I have been searching for what seems to be ages for the birthdate and place of my Great'grandmother ALMA MARY ELIZABETH BOND. Well I found her tonight in the 1911 Census, thanks to a gentleman on another list.
She was born in Co.Limerick in 1851. Alma m TOM ROBINSON, in 1874 at Mexborough. I have no idea when she left Limerick. My late father said that she had a beautiful Irish brogue, and that she was a buxom lady, very strong charactor. She become a Midwife, there has been some talk in the family that she may have trained at a Hospital in Dublin, the Rotunda?
Tom and Alma became quite an influential couple among those working to form the first Labour Govt in Britain. Tom was the first full-time Union worker in the North of England, and he became the first Labour Councillor for Stalybridge Cheshire. Alma as a midwife assisted the women and would not take money for her services.
Ramsay McDonald, Ben Tillet and other were among their Labour/union friends.
My Dad told me that every Easter there would be a parcel arrive from Ireland, filled with Easter Eggs for he and his siblings. They came from someone named either Lindon or Linden. Alma's father was named GEORGE BOND and he was a soldier, whether Irish or English I know not. I would appreciate any help or advice.
