James Brown I am also searching for MALONE family members in Ardee and area.
About 1839 Stephen MALONE, a stonemason, son of stonemason Stephen MALONE and Mary MALONE (maiden name not yet known), about 1839 married Mary SHARKEY, daughter of grocer Owen SHARKEY (wife's name not known). The Malones lived at Ardee, Co. Louth, Ireland.
My great-great grandparents Stephen MALONE (ca 1802-1879) and Mary MALONE (née SHARKEY) (ca 1820-1887) had the following offspring [dates from IGI for Louth, batch 5010972 serial sheet 36]:
1. Mary Anne (7 Nov. 1842 [Hunterstown, Ardee] - ??). 2. Bridget Agnes (24 Oct. 1844 [Castle St, Ardee]-1933).Bridget married miner/gold assayer Henry Edward APPLETON (ca 1838-1914) on 18 April 1869 at Blackwood, Victoria. [My great grandparents - their descendants' surnames include Appleton, Burgess, Hibberd, McIntyre, Mumford, Rainer, Scott, Soames, Waldron, Wells, Young etc.] 3. Jane (29 Nov. 1846 [Market St, Ardee] - ??). 4. Catharine (30 July 1848 [Market St, Ardee] - ??). 5. Stephen (9 May 1850 [Market St , Ardee] - ??). 6. Roseanne (16 Nov. 1851 [Market St, Ardee]- ??).Roseanne married Thomas FLYNN 1886.[Descendants of the names Cleary, Fazari, Flynn, Pyne etc.] 7. John Thomas (15 Oct. 1854 [Market St, Ardee] - ??). John married Bridget Fran Ward 1881. 8. Teresa (17 Sept. 1857 [Ardee] - ??).
I have since discovered from the 1879 death certificate of Stephen Malone (jnr) that there was a child before Mary Ann:Patrick, who was 38 in 1879, and a child after John:Joseph, who was about 18 in 1879.The death certificate does not mention Teresa, who may have died in childhood; another child (none of those named above) also died before its parents.
Arrived in Melbourne from Ardee some time about 1862/63 by ‘Chariot of Fire’.
