I'm trying to get past a "brick wall" which has stymied further research into my McKenna family. My great grandfather, John McKenna and his siblings were baptized in a range between 1858 and 1875 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Drogheda, County Louth.
Problem is that it does not appear that John's parenst married at St. Peter's. John's father was Peter McKenna and his mother was Ann Connachy( or some variation thereof). The problem is in Ann's real last name. Almost every record has a slightly different spelling for the name such as Connaghty or Conraghty or the aforementioned Connachy. The only record here in the US has the spelling as Connoughy.
Does anyone have any idea how I might try to track a marriage between Peter McKenna and Ann Connachy or Connaghty ? It most likely took place in 1857 in an area close by to Drogheda. Does the Connaghty name appear anywhere in County Louth at that time ?
Any advice would be most appreciated. The Louth County Library folks who have been very helpful could not help with this question.
