Before you begin searching for ancestors at the IFHF website you first need to establish an account. Indexes are free to search, but to download a birth, baptism, marriage, or death transcription costs 5.00 Euros payable by credit card. Once the credit card payment is received a transcription of the record you are interested in, will be sent to your computer.
The Oldcastle baptisms recorded on film by the LDS may be faded or illegible in parts, due to poor filming. This may be one of the reasons why you couldn’t locate the baptism of James Cleary. I’ve gone through many of these old baptism and marriage records for several counties filmed by the LDS, and have also noticed that baptism and marriages weren’t always listed in exact chronological order by day, month, or even year. If you placed the LDS film on extended loan at your Family History Center, check the baptisms for all of 1838 as well as 1839. Also check the margins of the pages, as sometimes the parish priest inserted baptisms into the margins of the registers.
I also found the IFHF marriage index for James Cleary and Mary McMahon. They were married in 1838. Being as your records show that James was born in November 1838, his parents were likely married in January or February of 1838.
The marriage index follows:
1 match for the search criteria: Cleary (plus variants) James 1838 Parish: OLDCASTLE (RC)
The cost to view the full details of the 1 record that you have not yet viewed is €5.00
Record Type: Marriage Records for Co. Meath Surname: Cleary First Name: James Spouse's Surname: Mahon Spouse's First Name: Mary Father's Surname: Father's First Name: Mother's Surname: Mother's First Name:

I didn’t find the baptism indexes for any other children of James Cleary and Mary Mahon recorded in Oldcastle or in any other parish in County Meath, or elsewhere in Ireland.
