We are seeking information about Smiths who lived in Aghabog Civil Parish. My great grandfather, John Smith, came from Rossnaglogh East townland. His father's name was Peter, and Peter married Catharine Greenan. There appears to be a cluster of Smith families who used to live in this area in the early 1800s, and they lived in Faltagh, Rossnaglogh and Corravilla townlands. (Names from the Griffith Valuation include Owen, Edward and John.)
Part of this family moved to Scotland and some later moved to America. Padrick (Patrick?) Smith was living in Brule County, South Dakota, in 1920, and the census identifies him as a cousin born in Scotland. An obituary dated 1928 shows a PF Smith (Padrick?) and James Smith attending services. They were living in Madison, Wisconsin at the time.
We would appreciate it if anyone has any information about this Smith family in Ireland. Thanks.
