I so hope that someone out there can share some information or give me some tips on how to find these ancestors.
My ggg-grandfather was Alexander McDonald of Monaghan, Ireland. He was born in 1802. He had a younger brother (8-12 years younger) named James McDonald.
Alexander McDonald went to England, and somewhat later in life married my ggg-grandmother (Mary Anne Dobison of Newcastle-on-Tyne) and they had one daughter, also Mary Anne, b. in Newcastle in 1843. The three of them went to America about 1850 and settled near Hempfield, Pennsylvania.
Alexander's younger brother James McDonald (b. about 1812) was somehow affiliated with Trinity University in Dublin. My grandmother said he "lectured professors" but it could be that time has enhanced his involvement there; perhaps he was just a professor. At any rate, James stayed in Ireland or at least in the UK. He sent shamrocks to my gg-grandmother every St. Patrick's Day but was not heard from after World War I.
Any information you could share or tips on where to find these two brothers would be very much appreciated! Thanks in advance (just for reading this far!) Margaret
