Gareth, I am quite certain that Owen's father was Michael, because I have the marriage record of Owen and Rebecca, and it lists the names of their respective parents. They were married November 25, 1882 in the RC Chapel of Aghmaker in Ballybay, Castleblayney. Owen Maguire of full age, bachelor, occupation servant, residence at time of marriage was Laragh; father's name and surname was Michael Maguire "dead," profession of father was Labourer. Rebecca J. Davis of full age, spinster, occupation servant, residence at time of marriage was Laragh, father was James Davis, "dead," profession of father was Labourer. Witnessed by John Coleman and Maggy Finigan. The married couple signed with their marks. The writing is very clear and unambiguous, so there is no mistaking Matthew for Michael, it is clearly Michael. However, the Rebecca you have in the 1911 census is indeed this same Rebecca. I have Owen listed as having died "after 1908," as he is mentioned as living in his son's immigration papers to Boston (ultimately to NYC) in 1908 on the Ivernia.
