I had a great uncle George H. Tormey. He was a detective on the Denver, CO police force. He helped break up a corruption ring within the police dept.
I searched the Irish Family History Foundation's database. It contains parts of the surviving parish rcds for Co. Roscommon. Several entire parishes' rcds remain undigitized. All rcds B4 1840 are sparse.
For the surname Tormey, there are 85 M rcds and 213 B rcds in the years preceeding the Famine.
Google the Foundation's name to lead you to the database. When you get some forenames and dates, you can browse it.
