I appreciate any information that can be shared regarding my surname "Horoho".Is this name spelled the same in Roscommons?Has anyone encountered my name anywhere in Ireland?
What I believe I know is my great great grandfather Bernard Horoho emigrated from County Roscommon to America sometime during the potato famine.Bernard acompanied the family of his fiance' - Catherine Scott.I think they were married in America.I believe Bernard and Catherine were Catholic, but am not positive. Most American descendants are Protestant, although practice of faith has been a rarity until recent generations.
From Bernard to my children are six generations, and we have reaobly good records for all those descendants.
But when we attempt to look back across the Atlantic to County Roscommons - the name disappears.
Over the years we have found "Horohoe" spellings in the U.S., and have always assumed those are relatives. But we have no proof of that.
Can anyone shed light on either the American or Irish pronunciation and spelling of my surname?
