The following information on my GGG Grandparents, Thomas Connell and Judith Marnell has been put togeather using the Customs and Culture of the Irish during the 1700's.
My GGG Grandpatents
Thomas Connell was born around 1760-1770's and Judith Marnell around 1780-5. Men usually married around 30-35 years of age and Irish girls around 15-20 years.I believe that both of them were born in the confinds of Ballingarry Parish, Tipperary. They were proberly married around 1795-1800. The RC Church did not come to Ballingarry until 1814, so I could not find any records. I do know that my GG Grandfather Richard was born in 1807.( I have a copy of his death certificate) The last children of Thomas's and Judith union were William and Eliza a set of twins who were Baptized in the RC Church of Assumption on June 6,1819. Their sponsors were James Connelly and Catherine Marnell. Thomas and Judith were listed as living in the town land of Glengall. Other siblings were John, Richard, James, Thomas,Judith,Honora,Catherine and Ann.
In the Tithe records of 1830, a John Connell was living in Glengall. Next to him was the widow Connell. I believe this was Judith Connell. Next to Judith was a Thomas Norton and his wife Bridget Maher. They were married in the RC Church of Assumption on May,14 1819. It so happens that Thomas and Bridget are my other GGG Grandparents from Ballingarry. One of their siblings was Mary Norton Baptized in the RC Church of Assumpion on November 26, 1824. Her sponsors were Patrick Norton and Mary Conway.
On November 24, 1847 Richard Connell age forty and Mary Norton age twenty-three wre married in the RC Church of Assumption in Ballingarry. Witnesses wereMichael Burlam and May Norton. I believe that Mary and Richard took up residence in Gooreen Upper, in Bullick Parish. I found them listed in Grifferts Valuatind of Ireland in 1854. Richard, his brother James and an Alice Connell were living next to each other. The following children were born of Richard and Mary's uninn and Baptized in Gorteen Parish
