Linda, I continue with comments on your 8/18/2012 posting. Names Day [vardu diena] for Anna is July 26. Grandmother Eizenija Lacis was born in Metriena. Grandfather Karlis Ozols was born in Liepkalne. Those are significant findings. You can now find their birth records on Raduraksti. Your task can be lessened significantly if you know their birth year, even more so if you know their birth date. For grandma choose Odsen(Metriena) followed by Laudona. For grandpa choose Linden(Liepkalne) followed by Liepkalne. Metriena is name of village(500) but also of pagasts. That pagasts in past has also carried names Odziena and Laudona. Now Laudona pagasts neighbors Metrienas pagasts on the west. Metrienas cemetery is located in current Laudonas pagasts. The city is about 25 miles west from Plavinas. I could provide travel route. Liepkalne is name of village(70) in Sausnejas pagasts, formerly was called Liepkalnes pagasts. Take P78 north of Plavinas, then W on V885 at Namkalns to Liepkalne. But stop at Sidrabini [formerly Ozoli] where library [biblioteka] may contain old records of pagasts. Village about 20 miles from Plavinas. Liepa=linden tree Piltene is far away from Plavinas. Is military reason for the connection between the families? Your points 3, 7 and 8 would be best answered after seeing the documents. But I will address them in another posting soon. Where did the Alksnis wedding take place? Where were Eizenija and Karlis wed? Briedis[deer] is very common last name and usually would not search. Do you have first name and what I suspect is connection to Eizenija?
