The spelling is Kameruts.
Everyone that responded before were very helpful.. Yes, Sinole is where my father was born.. Arturs was extremely helpful, we had corresponded via email, so it is not on the board.. He made several inquiries and phone calls and found relatives still living in Sinole, called them and made the arrangements for us to visit..
When my son and I got there, they had an interpreter there, which made it very helpful, since my Latvian is next to nothing! They had some pictures of my father in his younger days, andshe could see my father in my son, which I do at times.Altho, it is still not clear how we are related, but cousins several times removed as far as I understood.. I also found that I have cousins still in Russia and Germany, I have written to them, but never have heard back.
We were shown the land my father was born on, there are no buildings anymore and the local government now owns it.One of my uncles was a freedom fighter and was killed on the Estonia border where there is now a memorial, there are archaeology digs now going on in some of the places they hid.
there were a lot of things I learned about how life was for them all. very sad..
