My grandmother was Sadie Hatem of Lawrence Massachusetts. Her father, Abbass Kalil Hatem, came from Hammana.I have copies of a tree compiled in the 1920’s by Chukry Hatem, also of Lawrence Mass, while at university in Lebanon and updated in 1969 & 1970.This tree contains only the names of the sons of Hatem. The trunk begins with Farah Abi-Hatem al-Lehfedy.The tree splits into three main branches with son Paul of Aleppo, son Hatem of the Hauran and son Nader, @1656, of Hammana. My line descends through Nader. My dream is to fill in all of the daughters and wives. Another descendant of Nader was Ma Haide (Chafec George Hatem.)Dr. Hatem played an important role in 20th century China. In his biography he jokes about being a descendant of Hatim Tayy. With what little I have found about the generous Hatem Tayy I have been teased enough to continue to search for a tie between him and the Hatem’s of Hammana. For instance, @ 630 A.D., Hatim Tayy's son Adi (Adee) fled Arabia Felix, Yemen, to Syria with the coming of Islam.Eventually Adi returned and embraced Islam.Did he leave a family in Syria? Was his part of Syria Lebanon? My other dream is to make this one thousand year leap back from 1656 to 630.
