I saw your message and I checked an old directory of Syrian-American businesses published in 1909. It shows a dry goods and millinery shop as " K. Farah & Co." at 1317 Calhoun in Ft. Wayne, Ind. It also shows the town of origin of K. Farah as Ain Ash'ara in Arabic so it must be your relative. If you send me your address I will mail you a copy. I am pretty sure that Ain Ash'ara is in Lebanon but this can be checked. In those days thearea of Lebanon and Syria was simply referred to as Syria.
I am interested in old envelopes mailed from Lebanon or Syria to the U.S. before 1920. On the chance that you know anyone who saved old family correspondence, I would like to get copies of the envelopes.
