Dear Mr. Naaman,I just read your answer to my query on Samahas from Al-Jawir(sp? again). My father's parents were Wardy Monsour(my father always said that his mother's name was Rose Monsour, but her death announcement refutes that, unless Rose was a middle name) and Roger Samaha. Both immigrated from Lebanon to USA in early 1900.
My father and his siblings always claimed to have come from Beruit, but a Shaheen cousin says that it was Jawaar.
According to "family stories" my father'sgrandfather(Samaha or Monsour? don't know ) was responsible for the building of the roads in Lebanon (don't put much store in family legends, but thought that that tid-bit of info, if true, might give you an idea of which Samaha/Monsour family I speak). This family supposedly had a house up on the mountainside outside the city of Beruit(most people probably did).
I was in touch with a Samaha, distant cousin, who was a priest, and who was doing research on the Samaha family, but never really got any info from him. I can't recall his first name. It was many years ago, and if I recall correctly, he lived in California at the time. He was aged then and probably has since passed away.
Elias Samaha, the American restauranteur/hollywood movie producer is also supposed to be a cousin.
Family legend says that a relative, Samaha?Monsour? was being groomed to become the president of Lebanon when a coup put Jamil in power.
I have no idea if any of the aforementioned is true, but on the chance that it is, I am hoping that it willhelp youmake a connection between these families (Samaha/Monsour) and their forbears.
