Hello Diane. I've heard lots of stories about the name changes that occurred on the ports of arrival to the U.S. prior to WWI. There are millions of Lebanese descendents around the world now who are trying to piece up the stories of their great grandfathers together in order to trace back their origins. I am always in shock at the agony and frustration of so many people who are desperately trying to find their relatives. But the change in names, whether done intentionally to make it easier for their children to "melt" in the new world or, else, as the officers in charge filling out the forms decide the fate of many generations to come by the strike of their pens, makes it really hard for some whose names were deeply altered beyond recognition! Moford, is clearly one of those. I really cannot find any Arabic name that might phonetically resemble this name!
