I know I'm drawing a long bow, but if anyone could help me trace my family roots it would be much appreciated.
My mother's maternal grandfather, Sarquis El-Sitt (b. 1870 in Zghorta) emigrated to Australia with his family around 1898.His wife, Dora Beatrice Azzizzi (we think), was also born in Zghorta on 16 June 1875. They left their eldest son, Selman, behind (he followed some years later) and eventually settled in and around Glen Innes in New South Wales.
Sarquis adopted (or was given) the surname Solomon in Australia. They had a daughter in 1913 whom they named Veronica Hanna.Veronica married John Khouri (the spelling of which in Australia became Coorey) in 1937 and together they had 8 children that they raised in Glen Innes/Casino, NSW.
We know John had only a few years before emigrated from Lebanon, also from Zghorta. He may also have been joined by his sisters Widere and Mary, although this information is less reliable.
If anyone knows this family, or could suggest people who might or lines of enquiry that may be of assistance it would be very much appreciated.
