I'm having difficulty finding info on my maternal grandfather, because he was from Beirut. I have recently found out that his mother's family was from Broumana. Another problem is that of a custom of taking the father's given name as a son's last name. My grandfather was Gabriel Siadi. He was born 5/4/1889. His father is believed to be Siadi Chahin (Chahine, Shaheen). He was a priest. He also owned some property, on which grew figs, mulberry trees, tobacco, etc. His wife's name was Lillith or Jilulie. Gabriel had 2 brothers-Philip and James (died in Beirut @6yo), and 2 sisters-Ruth and Phillipe (spelling?). Gabriel left Beirut and sailed to the USA on 12/17/1908, from Naples, on the Italia. He arrived in NYC, on 1/2/1909. His father and brother James were deceased before Gabriel left Beirut. Lillith had 3 brothers who also came to the U.S.--Charles, Michael and James. Their last name was Moses when they arrived in the states, and then changed to Mosher. Lillith also visited the USA around 1918-21, and died a short time later in Beirut. Any light or info you could shed on this would be greatly appreciated.
