This is a October 25, 2012 update of a previous posting. I am seeking information on my grandfather Pranciskis (Francis) Pranas (Frank) Rakauskas (Rakousky, Rakouski, Rakowski) and ESPECIALLY my, grandmother Marijona Magdelena Jonikaite (Jomkaite, Jonigajte) (Family nameis either Jonikas or Yonikas). There is VERY little info available concerning or relating to Marijona (Mary Anna, Marie). Both Frank and Mary (Marie) were from the Kaunas area of Lithuania, (Frank I believe was from the Village of Zindaiciai, Jubarkas Parish, Lithuania.
Frank and Mary (Marie) were married in Chicago at the Providence of God Roman Catholic Parish located at 17th Street and Union Avenue. At the time of their marriage (April 22, 1901), on their marriage certificate,Frank’s age was listed as 25 and Mary’s age was listed as 26. They immigrated to the U.S. betweeen 1895 and 1900. My father Peter Paul Rakouski (Rakauskas) was born in Chicago on November 18, 1903 and HIS birth certificate lists his last name as "Rakousky" but the family name is RAKAUSKAS. My births certificate lists my last name as “Rakouski” as was my sister Mary’s last name.on her 1935 birth certificate.
My grandfather Frank had a brother Mykolas (Michael) who did at first live in Chicago but in 1906 hemoved with his wife Marijona (Mary) Klimas and their children to 913 Eight Street in Waukegan, Ill. Frank and Mary (Marie)had four (4) children Peter (d. 1968), Teophlia (Phyllis d. 1936), Jouzupas (Joseph d. 1930) and John (d. 2008).
Frank had a sister Monika (Monica, Moscia), who married Anton Pecukaitis, who lived in Cicerio, IL. Frank had the following nieces and nephews: Marijona (Mariona) Rakauskaite who was singer with the Lithuanian National Opera in Kaunas from 1920 - 1941. Marijona died in Lithuania in 1976.), Josephine (Sister Anna Marie of the Order of Sosters of St. Casimir) Rakauskas. Sister Anna Marie died in 1989 and the Rev. Simon Frank Rakauskas of the Order of St. Benedict who died in 1954.
