I am researching emigration from Bertrange in Luxembourg to the United States. Among them was a Kemp family, which settled as farmers in Sibley County (Jessenland Twp) after 1854: Widowed Ann Mary (Kraus) Kemp, sells her property in March 1854 and arrives in the United States on ship Camillus landing in NY 23 May 1854. She travels with her sons Peter Kemp (born 12 May 1830 in Bertrange) and John Peter (born 1835), her daughter Margaret Kemp and son in law John Krier. John Krier’s wife died in NY and he proceeds to Wisconsin, Ozaukee Co., where he remarries and settles. I have no knowledge what happened to Ann Mary (Kraus) Kemp and Peter Kemp (no trace in WI or MN so far) However, Peter Kemp is documented as a farmer residing in Jessenland Twp in the 1860 federal census. If he came directly to MN in 1854 he would have been among the early settlers in that area, as Minnesota was opened for settlement around that time. Peter Kemp married a Luxembourger girl Magdalena (Lena) Feipel around 1860. He lived in Jessenland until his wife dies 4 Jan 1899, then went to live in the household of his son John Kemp. He dies 7 May 1903 in Arlington. Their children were: - Henry Kemp, farmer, born 1860 MN, marries Gertrude NN, resided in Grafton, Sibley Co. Children born betw. 1891 and 1901 - Mary A. Kemp born 1862 MN, died 6 Jul 1909 in Sibley Co.married bef. 1882 Frank Weckop, farmer, born 1854 in Germany, died 20 Feb 1912 in Arlington. Children born betw. 1882 and 1899 - John Kemp, born 1864 MN, died 1941 (buried Arlington), married bef. 1896 Ann N.N. born 1862, died 1955 (buried St. Mary’s, Arlington). Children born between 1894-1914) - Emma Kemp , born 1873 MN, died 22 Oct 1945, buried St. Thomas’, Jessenland, married abt. 1890 Jacob Zeiher, farmer, born 1855 in Pennsylvania, died 1923, buried St. Thomas, Jessenland. Children born betw. 1891 and 1908. - Sophia Kemp, b. 1879 MN, resided in Jessenland in 1899 , in 1900 census she lives in household of brother John Kemp I’d appreciate any information, which could complete the above sketch.
