The following has been retrieved from www.maltafamilyhistory.com in the Index of the British Army 1800-1900:
G. CUMMING, Sergeant-Major, 57th Regiment, awarded the Insignia of the 5th Class of the Imperial Order of the Legion of Honour by the French for distinguished service during the Crimean War.
George CUMMING, Sergeant-Major, 57th Regiment, married 30th September 1857 to, Catherine BELSON, from Ireland.
The fact that they appear under the British Army, most probably they were married by the Army Chaplain and, therefore, their marriage was registered in the British records, either Army or Civil.
Civil registration in Malta started in 1863, i.e. seven years later than their marriage.
