Thanks for getting in touch and sorry for taking so long to reply. I moved home about the time you emailed and I'm finally getting the time now to catch up on things!
Mary Bone Reid is my great great grandmother and I know that she died in Mogador, Morocco between 1898 and 1900 and that she got married to David Muir in Mogador, Morroco, but I don't know if she met him out there or already knew him before she left Scotland. I know nothing about how they made their first trip to Morocco from Scotland. I would love to see the photo of Mary's gravestone if it is possible for you to send that?
Mary and David's son George Reid Muir was born on 21st March 1898 in Morroco City and he is my great grandfather. From what my mother has told me, the children were sent back to Scotland and I get the impression that they probably didn't have much of a relationship with their father as he remained in Morocco.
Could you tell me more about the other children? So far, all I have found evidence of is that George had another brother Hugh Murray Muir and I think he was older.
As for Mary's husband David Muir, he was born in Dalry, Ayrshire and he remained in Morocco until he died at the age of 70 in 1938 in Marrakesh. I have records of him travelling from London to Casablanca, Gibralter and Tangier in the 1920s and 1930s. The passenger lists show that he had been back to Glasgow and Saltcoats. I don't have details of his journeys in the other direction though so I'm not sure how long his stays were for and the purpose of his stays.
Which of Mary's younger brothers was your grandfather? I think there were 8 siblings: Margaret, John, William, Mary, Susan, George, Robert and James.
The furthest back I have got with the Reid's is to Mary's grandparents, John Reid and Susanna McKnight. But Mary's mother was a Walker and in that line I can go back to Mary's great great grandparents; Robert Highet and Mary Lymburner (Mary's grandfather married a Highet). I don't know how much you know about Mary and her brother's descendants? Please let me know where there are any gaps that I may be able to help fill in. Please feel free to contact me on my email: firstname.lastname@example.org (in case that confuses you, my surname Reid is from my father's side and this is my mother's family which we are talking about).
