The patriarch of the Van Deusen family in New Amsterdam was a fellow with the name of Abraham Pietersen Van Deursen, because he was from the Durs Land (water) in Nord Brabant. They had a castle for centuries, but the Spanish confiscated it, and it was put under control of the Duke of Parma. He and his five sons came to New Amsterdam, and thru his lineage he produced 2 American presidents, Martin Van Buren and Franklin Delano Roosevelt. There are at least 2 genealogical books published in the USA delineating The Van Deusen family, published between 1900 and 1910. Up till that time period, they were one of the most researched families in America. I myself had 2 generations of Van Deusen ancestors who fought in the Revolution and a third generation who fought who was married to Margret Van Deusen, daughter and grand daughter to the other two. There are now thousands of his descendants in the USA, with at least a half dozen ways to spell the name (including Van Dozen).
