Don't forget to note witness for the birth of children. They might be relatives and this can help you move back another generation as it can prove connections. I also use it with familysearch.org. Sometimes the records are hard to read, but at least knowing an apx. date helps me narrow down my search.
I also use Oluf Rygh: Norwegian Farm Names - http://www.dokpro.uio.no/rygh_ng/rygh_form.htmlhttp://www.dokpro.uio.no/rygh_ng/rygh_form.htmlThis site is excellent in figuring out those hard to read names. If you don't find what you are looking for, click on the name box that is most similar to it, it will take you to another page (yup its in Norwegian) but you will be able to see if the name has changed over time and about which years.
