I am looking for descendents of family members who left Jamaica for Costa Rica, beginning in the late 1800's. Family names include: MORRIS, BOND, WHITE, CLARKE, PALMER, CHAMBERS. Probably CUNNINGHAM also.
Here is an approximate history of family names & dates. My grandmother was born in Jamaica and brought to Costa Rica at age 8 (early 1900's). Her name was Mabel Keturah White Clarke. Her parents were Cecilia Keturah Clarke and Nathaniel White. She had two siblings (twins Joselin & Rose) that I know of, that came to Costa Rica with them. Rose later moved on to Panama and started my maternal branch there. Nathaniel served in some branch of the British West Indian Regiments and did a tour of duty in Africa (my aunt said in the "Boers War"). After the military he went to CR.
My grandfather was born in Jamaica (I believe). His name was Theodore White. My mom told me he comes from Palmer & Chambers families of Jamaica. Grandpa Ted was an engineer who drove the old trains in Limon, Costa Rica.
The families have grown to be very large, since leaving Jamaica. Women having upwards of 10, 11 births were not unusual. There are branches in Costa Rica, Panama, England, Germany, Italy, and The United States. At one time, my mom said we were the only White family in Limon, if that helps any. I do know the great Costa Rican football star, Jorge White is a relative. As well as, Oscar White, my uncle, who is fairly well known in Limon and throughout CR.
