I am originally from Panamá and my father's family is from Colón. I still have family living in Panamá city and in Colón. My paternal grandfather, Thomas Marcellus Sabló, came to Colón from Martinique in the 1880s and worked on the French Canal. My paternal grandmother was also from Martinique:Marie Luce Camille Castán. Other surnames in my family tree (father's side) include:La Bataille (La Batalla), Bacquie, Black, Rencioz, Priand (Prian), Ducasson, Hutchinson, Clovis.
I have found some of my relatives in the 1920 and 1930 U.S Census records (living and working in the Canal Zone and as immigrants living in the U.S.), in the Gorgas Hospital Mortuary Records, in the Passenger Lists (immigrants to the US), on the St. Pierre (Martinique) 1902 website, and in France (www.geneanet.org).However, many gaps still remain!
If you have any information that you are willing to share, I would be most grateful! ¡Muchísimas gracias! María
