My great grandfater, Szczepan Dobrowolski (b. 1865) listed on his WWI draft registration that he was from Ponieck, Warsaw which is confusing to me because Poniec is a ways away from Warsaw. Is Warsaw (or Warschau) also a region or only refering to the city?He had lived for a time in Alexandrowo-Kujalski with his wife and children before emigrating in 1912-1914.Are there several Alexandrowo (or Aleksandrovo) and is Alexandrowo-Kujalski the same?
Szczepan was married to Jadwiga (Swipleleska or Szpalkowska or something similar...we are not sure of spelling) who listed on the ship manifest when she emmigrated that she was from Alexandrovo and had a sister in Ciechoniek.Somewhere we also have found the town Nieszawa as her birthplace. My grandfather, Sylvester was born in Ciechoniek in 1894 and emmigrated in 1914.
Szczepan and Jadwiga and their children all emigrated at different times during this period of 1912-1914 and listed as their home town Alexandrowo, Ciechoniek or Warschau. We have found only some of the family on ship manifests, including Jadwiga, son Jerzy, my grandfather Sylvester, his sister, Helena, and his brother Konstanti. The name Dobrowolski was just hammered on the ship manifests, so it has taken some searching to find them.
Any information on this region of Poland would be appreciated.
