My best friend Dell, who is helping others, greetings!
Here is the explanation: Our friend Gilberto is right, the family ancestral parish was Studzieniczna, the main point is that now in the 21st century this Studzieniczna is the part of the town of Augustow.
Time to give the Lesniewski's family all base sources:
FAMILY ANCESTRAL TOWN KOLNICA In the 19th century this Kolnica was a gmina (commune centre), having the gmina office, and primary school, counted in 1827: 54 homes, and 338 inhabitants, in abt 1880: 76 homes, and 712 inhabitants. The Kolnica inhabitants specialized mainly in farming, and linen production. The Kolnica RC church and parish was Studzieniczna.
FAMILY NAME Lesniewski (fully spelled in Polish as Leœniewski), belonging to that group of surnames derived from Polish language, and word "las", meaning a wood, forest. With all etymological and historical works the surname Lesniewskihas very rich roots and heritage, noted in old Poland from the year 1472.
FAMILY ANCESTRAL RECORDS From this parish Studzieniczna the church/civil books are in: Years 1880-1901 in AP - Polish State Archive Suwalki: Archiwum Panstwowe w Suwalkach 16-400 Suwalki, ul. Kosciuszki 69 tel: (87) 566-21-67 fax: 566-21-67 email: email@example.com www.suwalki.ap.gov.pl Years 1889-1901 in AP - Polish State Archive Bialystok: Archiwum Panstwowe w Bialymstoku 15-426 Bialystok, Rynek Kosciuszki 4 tel: (85) 743-56-03 fax: 743-56-55 email: firstname.lastname@example.org www.bialystok.ap.gov.pl + almost same, with microfilms, are in FHL/LDS centre in Salt Lake City: https://familysearch.org/eng/library/fhlcatalog/printing/titledetailsprint.asp?titleno=126514
FAMILY SURNAME LOCATION No family Lesniewski in this present-day Kolnica, and/or in nearby located villages - from north to west: Czarnucha, Rzepiski, Osowy Grad, Ponizie, Rzepiska, or Bialobrzegi on the way to the local town Augustow. Finally, in this Augustow with Polish internet we can find family Lesniewski, here is the link from yellow pages with the address, and phone number: http://www.e-podlasie.pl/wizytowka/agdom_sc_sklep_agd_sprzet_rtv_lesniewski_b_1088640.htmlhttp://www.e-podlasie.pl/wizytowka/agdom_sc_sklep_agd_sprzet_rtv_lesniewski_b_1088640.html Of course we don't know if they are related, but who knows...
Finally, as I like to give all American families a little joy with imagination, here is the image of the family Lesniewski's ancestral holy church in old Poland in this Studzieniczna, where all family attended a mass every Sunday, and where all ancestors from Poland were baptized: http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plik:3_Studzieniczna_02.jpghttp://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plik:3_Studzieniczna_02.jpg
With the best good luck! Tadeusz "Tad" Wysocki Warsaw, Poland
