Hi Betty,
I looked at Familysearch.org and I guess the family you are talking about is Izydor Dziolek, born about 1875 in Poland, and his wife Veronica and their children John S. and Anna H. Dziolek.I can see the 1940 census for them (he is indexed on familysearch as "Izadore Dziolek" for the 1940 and "Isadore J Dziolak" for the 1930).The 1940 census shows that both children were born in Illinois so you should look for birth info there.Sometimes the kids' birth certificates will give place of birth of parents. If you have a subscription to Ancestry.com (which I don't)you can see the image of the 1930 census and that will likely tell you at least which partition of Poland Izydor came from (it may say Austria or Russia, for example) and that will help narrow your search of hometowns. The 1940 census also says Izydor immigrated in 1902 which may or may not be accurate but again it should help narrow your search.
The surname Dziolek is very rare in Poland today. You may already know this, but the "L" in the name is the special Polish "L" with a slash through it which gives it the same pronunciation as a "W" in English, and the "DZI" at the beginning would sound like a "J" so the pronunciation in Polish would be rather like Jo-wek.Because of that slash through the "L" many indexers will misinterpret the letter as a "T" so you may try doing some searches as "Dziotek" and see what comes up.Also, of course, try "Dziolak" and "Dzialek" and so forth.
Best of luck,
Sophia
