Russian Regiment Warsaw
My ancestor Johann Gottfried Potratz was born about 1780 in Dresow (now Drzezewo, Poland). In 1805 he was married on Wolin Island and this was attached to his record by a German cousin:

"gewesener Unteroffizier im Russischen Regiment in Warschau und Schullehrer in Dresow"
which I believe means, "has been commissioned officer in the Russian Regiment in Warsaw and is a school teacher in Dresow."
He married into a family from Wolin, which until about 1815 was part of Sweden. His children were all born on Wolin between 1806-1811.
I have googled the Russian Regiment without much success. Was it part of the Imperial Russian Army?
